Shadow play self-portraits.

The series shown at the exhibition summarizing the Jozsef Pecsi Art Photography Scholarship dwells on one of the interesting questions about photography. The eternal paradox of the presence of the photographer and his position as an outsider, in connection with a photograph taken by him. If he was there, why can’t we see him on the picture? What is his relationship with the environment he is representing? The self-portrait as a photographic genre often tries to deal with answers to these questions. This series of unusual self-portraits continues this train of thought which makes the photographer an “outsider” and a key player on his own picture at the same time. The photographs of his own shadow cast on various spaces and surfaces are about the relationship or connection between the photo-grapher and the subject he is photographing, about his presence and his position as an outsider.
