Imre BENKŐ
b. 1943, Kispest

Budapest Blues

For more than forty years, Imre Benkő has been recording Budapest – along with countless other urbanised locations across the world – in black and white photo essays. He is a subjective documentary photographer, focusing primarily on the quotidian, customary course of life instead of loud and pompous events and “decisive moments”. In this milieu, which seemingly emerges from tones of grey, Benkő scrutinizes the people, recording the simple course of daily life devoid of ephemeral majesty.

Benkő began his series Budapest Blues in 2006, supported by the Budapest Photography Grant.
