Balázs GÁRDI
b. 1975, Budapest

Concrete Jungle

Balázs Gárdi has quit photographing Budapest for quite some time now. For a while, he was an active and respected member of the VII Photo Agency, travelling across Mexico, Brazil and Afghanistan in the footsteps of his well-known predecessors, J. Sadovy, Griffiths, Capa, and perhaps even Huyn Cong Ut. His photographs reveal the unusual, the unknown, the turbulent, in ever darker tones, in the framework of empathy-provoking media. Our exhibition presents an early series from the photographer, which is not yet infested by the “globalised myth of newsworthiness”, and which, as the title suggests, depicts a world functioning by the laws of the conflict between weak and strong.

Gárdi made his series Concrete Jungle in 2003, supported by the Budapest Photography Grant.
