Dániel KOVALOVSZKY
b. 1979, Budapest
Memory Factory
Dániel Kovalovszky chose as his subject one of the most distinguished mementos of the collective “Eastward” past, a symbol of the workers’ spirit, the Csepel Works. In order to keep a distance while giving a visual account of the factory and its neighbourhood, the young photographer uses a medium format camera. While intending to remain an outsider, he opts for a collective point of view so as to create a collective visual memory. His photographs display buildings deprived of their original function, objects that have become relics since the regime change, and people living in spaces of the past, reminiscent of a stage set.
Kovalovszky began his series Memory Factory in 2008, supported by the Budapest Photography Grant.
