Gyula SOPRONYI
1974, Budapest

Residential Parks

Gyula Sopronyi most of all works as a photojournalist in war zones. The subject of his series for the grant was an adrenalin-free zone, the residential parks of Budapest, fashioned for present-day needs, equipped with security systems and often guarded and walled. The playful technique of digital manipulation multiplies the human figures in a habitat vibrating with crisp colour – a condensed micro-society. Sopronyi skilfully poses the question: are the prejudices we formulate about residential parks, alienation and uniformisation, really true?

Sopronyi made his series Residential Parks in 2010, supported by the Budapest Photography Grant.
